TRAIL INFORMATION
Clear Creek Trail
Clear Creek Trail
Trail Notes:

This is a great winter/spring time hike through terrain typical of a mixed southern pine forest.
The one way distance on the marked trail is about 3.5 miles.

The trail is located in Kisatchie National Forest – Catahoula Ranger District. It traverses
over ridges along Clear Creek and across the creek bottom. The trail is marked by white
plastic diamonds nailed to trees along its' route. The Forest Service has built foot bridges
over Clear Creek and some of its' tributaries along the way.  An added plus to this trip
when I took it was the beaver dam located on Clear Creek at the foot bridge. There were a
number of places where trees had fallen over the trail, possibly due to Hurricane GUSTAV.
The trail would probably be flooded along the low ground adjacent to Clear Creek during
rainy weather that would cause the creek to rise.  Also the trail markings ended at National
Forest road C083C. There was a trail marker across this road showing that the trail at one
time had continued to the east to Parish (county) road 142 (Clear Creek road).  A short
reconnaissance through the brier patch failed to find any more trail markers to the east. The
Kisatchie National Forest map shows the trail ending further east on Parish road 142. We
had no problems though since it is only a short hike down C083C (be courteous since this
goes right by someone's house) to 124 and then back west for about 1.5 miles to the trail
head.

User Groups:

The trail is open to foot hikers and horse trail riders only.

Permits:

no day use permits are required

Directions:

Take US HWY 165 north from Alexandria/Pineville through the town of Ball.  Turn right on
Parish road 124 (Barron road) (UTM Grid [NAD 27 Datum] 15 R 055635 348119).
Proceed east on Parish road 124 to the intersection with National Forest road C098S
(Precious Memories road) (UTM Grid [NAD 27 Datum] 15 R 055832 348209).  The trail
head is on the north side of the road and is marked by a sign.  Note:  Parking space at this
